No-frills airline Ryanair has announced plans to open a new European base in Faro as of March 2009. 6 Aircraft will be based at the new Ryanair base on the Algarve and 14 new routes (a planned 28) will be launched. It is hoped that the new base will create an additional 300 jobs as well as offering those wishing to visit the Algarve with 200 weekly flights to choose from.
Ryanair’s new routes will connect those living on the Algarve with airports in Derry, Knock, Madrid, Marseille, Paris and Milan, to name but a few places.
Ryanair´s Michael O’ Leary hopes that the 1.3 million Ryanair passengers will help to sustain 1,300 jobs locally in and around Faro airport.
